Online Degrees

StudentIt has never been easier to further one's education. Degree programs, undergraduate and post-graduate degree courses are now attainable from the comfort of home. A few years ago, only a handful of schools offered degrees for the distance learner; today, many reputable colleges and universities — including prestigious Ivy League schools — are jumping on the bandwagon.  According to a  report by the National Center for Education Statistics (NCES), approximately 11,200 college-level online programs were offered in the 2006-2007 academic year by 2- and 4-year institutions. A full 66% were for online degree programs. Of the estimated 12.2 million total enrollments, almost 9.4 million — about 77% — were entirely for online programs.

As a result, more people who would not normally be able to attend on-campus classes (retirees, stay-at-home moms, busy people with full-time jobs) are enrolling online than ever before.

In this section, we provide information, resources, tips and advice to help you find the right online degree programs, including advice on how and where to verify the accreditation of any program that you may be considering. College Mouse only features schools accredited by agencies recognized by the U.S. Department of Education and/or the Council for Higher Education. Every online degree that appears on this site – and every course, certificate program and training program throughout the site -- is from a legitimate accredited institution. Read more about diploma mills and how to avoid them.
